- the start capacitor provides a large starting torque to start a single-phase motor. It is only used at start-up and shuts off as soon as the engine is started. Unlike the permanent capacitor, the starting capacitor must not be supplied with power permanently, otherwise it may explode. So be careful if you have to change the capacitor of your motor so as not to make the wrong model!
